Myths and Facts #1 - The Chinguard

-----------------------------------

For your viewing pleasure, the first episode is up. :)

The video got kinda long so i decided to focus it all on the "chinguard" this time, with the "Auto-9" left for an upcoming episode.

What do you think? I know the content is dangerously close to being Star Trek nerdy but hopefully it also comes off as educating and interesting.

That was really good. Covered the points nicely. I'm quite sure those there's an episode in the series where Lippencott takes off Robo's helmet and we clearly see him quickly reach over and flick the chin guard off too (but strangely, not the part at the back of the head... That's gonna bug me now as to what episode that was in.

Also, nice touch with the .com appearing in time with the OCP ad music from Robo 2 and even the animated short from the cartoon series!

It's in the pilot, but it was so brief that the "provission22" scene felt more meaty to show.

and even the animated short from the cartoon series!
I like the absurdity of the scene, but it is also relevant to the episode as Robo just picks up his helmet and the chinguard just appear out of nowhere.

Great vid. I really like the little chime when the .com pops up. Great touch. I really loved it.

The ratchet scene also reminded me that when he starts ratcheting the bolt out the sound effects are backwards. As the ratchet moves counter clockwise you can hear the ratcheting sound, but is should be heard whenever the ratchet is moving clockwise since he is loosening the bolts... Unless they put left handed threads into his head. Just something else of note.

That is great boys ! You probably showed to us all the best points and facts and also a bit explained many facts about the chin guard and things around that. It is interesting because this is probably the first time when someone pointed out this problem with these missing parts . :) Who knows, maybe some guys from a film studio will notice that and in a new film we will see that much more real .

Anyway, around this time when a new film or remake is too far away is nice to watch this your RA Myths and Facts series !

Btw.. totally love the slowed down effect in the end of the drug factory scene ! :thumb1:

I cannot wait to see explain next myth and of course watch next episode. So, here we go ?

Really enjoyed this. Nice work. Very well put together.

I'd love to see an episode dedicated to whether Murphy feels actual pain or not. Comparing footage of Clarence driving the metal stake through Robo's heart in R1 to the footage of the ninja slicing off Robo's hand in R3 would show two polarizing reactions, and thus open up a great debate.

That would be me, as I've done all the videos. Unfortunately I had a cold while doing this one, but with that comment, I shall be retiring from the voice overs.

So no more distractions for you.

I am of Irish-English heritage, just moved from the UK to Denver, CO recently. If you want a narrator who sounds like The Old Man, I'll be glad to contribute.

I think you've upset him.... :(

I'm Irish too, I could do a mean voice over if I sat down and re-rcorded myself saying everything 100 times to get the tone just right and make it sound as un-sucky as possible.

Putting your work and voice out there can be difficult, your at the mercy of a lot of people. That is one of the reasons i didn't just voice it all myself, I just don't think my swedish-english is good enough.

However, that is the first accent comment the video has gotten so apparently it can't be THAT distracting? Particularly youtube viewers can be VERY harsh in their comments and so far there have been no accent remarks at all. In fact there have been no narrator comments AT ALL, which is the point really. A narrator should just be there and the focus should be on the content and video. In that regard i think we did well.

I understand if Mephisto doesn't want to do it any more, but hope he reconsiders. I always thought he did a good job in the 5 videos we've done so far.

However, i always wanted this to be more of a community effort, so if you want to "audition" to narrate one episode please send me some short text that i can listen to.

I'd actually love to try my hand at this. I had been considering it the last couple of days, but I didn't want to step on Meph's toes. I don't have much time these days for a lot of writing though, so if you have that end covered, I'm game. I'll see if I can get you a voice demo soon. Should I e-mail it to you?

Also Meph, I don't think you should hang your hat just yet. Unless, of course, you actually don't want to do them anymore... otherwise, I say keep at it. :)

First off, I definitely dug the video J-man. Especially that little "Ding!" when the ".com" appears at the end.

And Meph, although I was not in love with your narration at first with all the other videos, I have grown accustomed to it and really don't want to see you walk away from these type of projects. It's true what J-man says, not one single YT comment about the voice. And youtuber's are 1/2 step above the retard-ocidty of IMDB users. Which is saying a lot.

In light of this now becoming some sort of RA community project, I like this idea. Perhaps a new narrator or "guest speaker" on every other new video?

And as always, I love the random clip at the end. Keep em coming!

Well, I'm considerably late here, BUT I just saw the video and enjoyed it.

As for Meph's narration (which I notice is not on the clip I have just viewed, it's narrated by Dash now) I kinda wished it was there, I've never found his previous narrations distracting or bad at all. In fact I thought they were kinda unique and neat and non-nerdy, actually. But perhaps being a southerner myself I'm a bit biased.

Anyway, that all aside I like it considerably, and thought it was well done, as I would expect from J-man. The PD bit was a low point for me though, but only because I don't remember so much of it, everytime I see a piece of it, it make me dislike it that much more.

The bit where the chin piece remains reminds me uncomfortably of Mickey Rourke's Marv in Sin City. And of course there is the crummy makeup.

But enough PD bashing, again, the clip was nice. About the view the next on Auto 9, I look forward to it.
