Archive : | As such we can assume Murphy will only become Robo at the end of the movie and the rest deals with him being a cop, getting killed and being turned into a machine. |
With what you said here Archive, to me its almost like the movie is going to be a prequel kinda like the Star Wars movies where they started with I think what was later considered to be number 4 then over time they came out with 1-3. So if its true that you don't see no Robo til the end it could lead to more moives yet to come
Also in that one picture someone posted of Joel Kinnaman without his facial hair and smile, kinda reminded me of Eminem just in my opinion

Has anyone seen The Killing? I've been waiting to get this on Netflix since before I knew who Kinnaman was. I'm a big fan of shows where the plot unfolds slowly (The Wire, Mad Men) and this show's been getting a lot of praise from critics. But it hasn't really picked up much attention with anyone I know personally. In any case it'll be good to see how he is as an actor here and how it'll contrast with the new RoboCop.

As much as I wouldn't mind more of an origin story, I would not want a whole film sole based on Alex Murphy and only the last parts of it focusing on RoboCop. That just takes away the whole point for me.

Agreed. We have had an origin story. An honest cop gets blown away and rebuilt into a cyborg to fight crime, but actually discovers his humanity. As far as I'm concerned Murphy is unremarkable. He's just a straight up cop. He has no hidden past and needs no origin story.

Indeed, it is Murphy's role as an everyman at the start of it that makes it easy to relate to him and his journey. We know little more than that he is an all-American family man before he turns into Robocop, and that is when the character development begins.

When I compare the pics of Robo with Kinnaman uncovered face and the old helmetless Robo portrayed by Weller... I have to say I see Weller, who was 39 then, looking more as a full grown man, average family father in his mid 30's, and that fitted perfectly with the character.
Kinnaman, although he's 33, because of his soft facial features looks more as a cute young male model in his 20's, so I can't really see him as an average family father and cop. I mean, Murphy's son is around... 10 years old?
It's a hollywood trend to choose young looking leading actors to appeal more to the young audience.

Yes, that was a key part of the plot, the order in which the story elements are delivered is VERY important.
A dull and linear screenplay will present Murphy to us from the beginning in his everyday life with his family, showing how much he loves his wife and kid.
The 1987 screenplay wasn't linear, but very efficient and brilliantly written, all about Murphy's family and life was presented in flashbacks in different and key moments of the plot to have the greatest effect possible in the audience.

That was a concern of mine as I mentioned in another thread. All is well if they don't splash on too much make up. He looks his age on The Killing where he also plays a cop, at least he looks old enough to have a 7 yo son.
