RoboCop Remake - Changes from the Original

[Archive]

We all know the RoboCop remake/reboot/re-imagining will mix things up a bit and the biggest change is of course the suit, which we all have our individual opinions on. But there are many other minor changes here also, some which are so subtle one might actually wonder why they did them in the first place. Here is the things I have noticed, and please feel free to contribute your own. This will eventually end up as a section on the site.

CHANGES

* New suit. Out silver, in Black.
* There is no helmet as such to remove. The visor flips up.
* New main vehicle. Motorcycle.

* Robo's POV is new. No crosshair. Vision is red not green.
* No Data spike??
* No Prime Directives??

* Creator of RoboCop is not Morton. It is now NORTON.
* Wife Ellen is now CLARA.
* Son Jimmy is now DAVID.
* Anne Lewis is gone. Lewis is now a man. JACK Lewis.

* Alex Murphy is not a street cop. He is an undercover cop..?
* Alex Murphy is not killed in the remake. He is critically injured.
* A car bomb instead of a gang shotgun attack.
* Murphy does not loose his memory.
* No religious/resurrection symbolism.

NEW additions:

* No Delta City..?
* Saved right hand in the remake.
* First movie to have scenes outside Detroit.


STILL THERE

* Stores a gun in leg holster. One gun for each leg.
* Alex Murphy is still named Alex Murphy.
* ED-209 returns
* Robo voice.
* Some type of Robo movement.
* Similar RoboCop logo font
* Omnicorp is a division of the larger OCP

The suit overall has a more hard tactical tone, not really sleek and impressive like the original - less 'product of Detroit' and more cutting-edge technology leanings with the new suit versus the old. And like Hell said, this version is more agile, not really like a 'beast' as the original suit was.

Another smaller point is the sequence taking place in China, the original never went out of Detroit.

Also seems to be a lack of major social/political satire.

Definitely no ultra graphic violence either.

Another small thing is more mention of actual military applications of Omnicorp products/services in the new film, whereas it was implied in the original but never actually expounded on in any way.

It's been revealed to me that the ungloved hand serves a purpose further than public relations..Murphy has been known to play a mean ass set of spoons,This alteration to the character allow's him to get closer to his bluegrass roots and do a little porch front jamming with Lewis it's great!
