RoboPimp : | I saw something on facebook about how they got the RoboCop 2 graveyard scene. |
They don't have the actual deleted scene. It's the same footage that can also be found on the scream factory edition. Behind the scenes footage shot by Paul Sammon.

RoboPimp : | I feel the tone of the docs will be "Robo 1 is a masterpiece, Robo 2 wasn't so bad, and Robo 3 was a big mess lol" as has been the kind of standard fan position for years. But not this fan. |
Thatīs the big problem with RoboCop as a franchise: everything after the first movie was considered "crap". I meant, how many releases from the first film we have in the last 20 years? And then compare the releases we had for the rest of the series: R2 & R3 had a crappy release on DVD as part of the Trilogy, with only the trailer as an extra. The upgrades they had are based on the same DVD releases: barebone editions without extras. Only Scream Factory released (only for the US) the sequels with some effort to make a "collectorīs edition". The series were released on DVD, and then on Blu Ray on Germany on a suspicious way. Standard definition, a featurette stolen from this site, and a weird selection of the Japanese ads where Roboīs selling noodles. Iīm surprised the Marvel Cartoon was released here in Europe on four DVDs, and PD has multiple editions along the years, but sadly, most of them without any extras. Alpha Commando didnīt have any releases on digital, and Iīm not sure if it was released on VHS in the past. RebootCop was released on a standard Blu Ray with a few short extras, and then it was released on some "combos" with the first film or the trilogy.
When you ask companies about a decent release of the rest of the franchise, they usually donīt say "No", but their replies are so vague that you could read between lines.
A 4 hour documentary about RoboCop sounds "boring" to me. Dissecting each scene would make it hard to swallow, but theyīre trying their best to make the editing look fun and appealling. Iīm sure any new behind the scenes stuff would be amazing to watch, but we had a bunch of good looking, great featurettes about the first RoboCop in the past.
As for Robo 2 & 3, I bet itīll be fun to watch behind the scenes, deleted scene recreations and thoughts from the cast and crew, since we had tons of crappy releases from the films in the past. But to tell you the truth, Iīd be more interested on having behind the scenes stuff from The Series, since thereīs little information about the making of the show. We had some interviews with Eden and crew on specials and the book, and the VHS featurettes that this site put online, but theyīre short. If someone would get access to more stuff from the TV era, the RoboDoc crew would make it possible. You can imagine having some reels from The Series or PD there; some storyboards and cells from the Cartoons, and such.
And I know most of these people from the TV adaptations would be happy to talk about these projects. Same with the comics. I understand Miller would be hard to track (but with Ed Neumeier on board and the rest of the people who created this character supporting the documentary I think Miller would even think about getting on board), but there are many artists and writers who you could approach. Take Alan Grant, for example. Heīd be AMAZING to hear him talk in depth about his work on the comics. He loved the character, and he hated working on it due to studio interferences. Heīs a Brit, so they could handle having some hours with him to talk about him. If a dude from Spain could get a written interview from him, he could contribute to this.
Kurkut Öztekin is a lovely guy; met him on a Comic Convention here and had the chance to interview him. Quite sincere about their opinion on the original script from RoboCop 3. He likes RoboCain. He isnīt too harsh on RebootCop, but understands why it doesnīt have too many fans. I meant, Iīm sure heīd like to give the people behind the Doc is thoughts. Even Walter Simonson, the guy behind Robo Vs. The Terminator, is a lovely guy who can answer some questions. A legend on his own, he told me about how he could get the look of the characters buying some kits (something Sullivan did as well) and shared his thoughts about the character.
I can see they want to focus the interviews on live action, but then they include on their promotional images some stuff from videogames, comics and such. Itīd be impossible to get everyone on board, but Iīm sure they could arrange some interviews with people who would represent these RoboRelated stuff they forgot. I mean, you can get Tom Noonan or Robert Burke and you canīt reach Julian Grant or the guy who runs Fireworks to talk about Alpha Commando or PD? You only could interview Lee Sullivan (great bloke as well) but canīt interview others, even when people gave you some contacts to reach them?
At this point, we could talk about whatever weīd want, but I doubt weīd get anyone outside the films for the documentaries.

I'm fairly certain the first few episodes where available on VHS and the show was available on an online streaming platform (Hulu, I believe) a couple of years ago.
I agree that I'm honestly not expecting much on the sequels and spin-offs at this point, which would be sad, as that is what I too am looking forward to the most. _________________ Anything you post can be used against you!

There was an Alpha Commando VHS release, but it seems there was only one which collects the first three episodes which were one story arc. I've seen this floating around on eBay and stuff for years but no others were released to my knowledge. It also used a weird image of Robo on the cover which is not nearly as blue as he appears in the actual cartoon. Want to know more about this VHS or Alpha Commando in general? Then don't watch the upcoming 'definitive' RoboDocs. Sorry, couldn't resist...

Hmm, I think there might have been a second VHS released, as I have this first one for sure, however I did actually watch another 3 episodes from a VHS tape! I'm going to search my crates of VHS tapes and see if I am talking shit or not! _________________ http://img819.imageshack.us/img819/1060/klfjustifiedancient.png

Think we now know why Weller was reluctant to participate in this. The response to his "call me Robo" on-set demand by the cast & crew. Kurtwood Smith and Randy Moore really throw him under the bus here, but fair play to them for conveying how they still feel 30 years on.
And yet, after listening to the RoboVision and Sound Design portions of the segment (which were interesting and nicely explained), the awkwardness between Peter and those 2 guys was the most compelling part. It tells a story of a certain amount of conflict with some 'dramatic' value.
It's been edited to depict PW as an arrogant, pretentious actor with a method technique ego. That doesn't go down too well with your normal, relaxed, down-to-earth people on a film crew. They could care less and will truly "social distance".

Iīve seen the extras a bunch of times and the way they edited the Bob Morton press conference saying if heīs there or listening to this on this makes the "silly" and "fun" promo scene a more interesting take. Not sure if the real deal involved the rest of the cast being tired to his methods to the point of thinking he was arrogant or an asshole (it seemed most of the cast had respect for Weller), and I donīt know if people would see the funny edits in here as a way to getting a "vengance" over the fact he doesnīt want to be involved on this.

Update provided by the guys this evening. The three docs are almost fully complete and are being finalised and then legal documents will be filed for preparation for the release. By the end of this year they should have this sorted and have a better idea of a release date. _________________

That seems like mostly good news but I guess those delays had nothing to do with getting a Weller interview after all, huh? But also didn't they say they were 'almost complete' over a year ago? I am looking forward to seeing this documentary, but I'll believe it when I see it.

I think they were "almost complete" with one documentary and then decided there was too much stuff and it needed to be split. This is the first update from them where they have actually mentioned being able to give a release indication so I'm taking that as a big positive. _________________

As far as I recall, they almost finished Robo1 back then, and they were working on RoboDoc 2 & 3.

That. So, knowing theyīre finishing ALL sounds promising. But...

Letīs be cautious, then I agree with Pimp on this. I hope weīll have a chance to get it during Spring 2021. Iīll like to see what they did with all of that.

Someone/company did release it on DVD but it was just a recording from the tv. minus the commercial breaks. Cause at the end they talked about the show coming up during the credits and charged close to $50 for it too. I know cause I was a sucker who bought it.

Well, yeah, there is the bootleg release, but that's pretty much it. I recorded the entire show about a decade ago when it first aired here, but it's dubbed in Bulgarian. There are encodes from Hulu floating around the net though (since I believe the show's not on there anymore). I'd be the first to support an official DVD release, but until then, that's all we have... _________________ Anything you post can be used against you!
