Spectrum Scarlet : | Didn't care for the animated run and "PD" came along some years later. I get why they left it out, focusing more on the popularity 'boom' of the character (in the early/mid 90's), but I too would've liked to have seen, at the very least, Julian Grant, the writers and the 4 other producers.
Unless they didn't want to be featured...?
Maybe too embarrassed by the end product? |
No, they didn´t ask them in the first place. I even gave them some contacts.
I love all things Robo, but I´m specially interested on these productions that didn´t have a lot of info available. I´m more interested on the RoboDoc segments after the first film. I´m sure the guys have found interesting stuff for the first film, no doubt, but there isn´t too many info about R2 and R3 (at least in Europe, where each release of these films came without any bonus content). And we had less information about the TV incarnations. So having a segment dedicated to the 94 series will be great.

Ya know this is making me think that maybe the Robodoc team should start releasing some of that 'legacy' content out of order. The Robodoc has been delayed for years, and now obviously is going to take a lot longer to finish up while they get Weller's interview incorporated. Maybe now would be the time to release the standalone minidoc about the Series? After all, it's not like there is some last minute footage that would drastically change that documentary. And it would be a nice way to finally give the kickstarted backers some small crumb of what they financially supported. But based on their track history, the team is not too concerned about satisfying their kickstarter backers. It is a shame that Weller's interview will push back the theoretically complete documentaries that we care about the most. Maybe they will release all of the documentaries at once, that would probably the fairest and most satisfying way to finally get this stuff out to the people. But if they stick with their current pace, I wonder if I will even be around to see the Series minidoc and other legacy stuff I have been most interested in the whole time. I am almost 30...

I´ll be 40 in some years, and I have a shitty health. I´ll loose my sight before it´ll be released.
A dude I know he´s working on a RoboBook here (which is weird, as I thought I was the only RoboFan in the country) and I ever help him a little with some people. The people from some of the TV shows gave him some juicy stuff, and I hope he´ll share that on the book. Guides and such for Alpha Commando and all that. And I´m not a good AC fan, but man, watching some behind the scenes stuff from that would be a treat.

Oh, well. Guess their interests are elsewhere. You never know with these guys and they might have a re-think some day in the future. They could end up in Toronto again or across Canada (if Julian and co. are spread out) and squeeze them in, while filming for another unrelated doc. They did that with "Pennywise"; that's how they got Blu Mankuma and James Kidnie (Sergeant Parks & Pudface Morgan).
They've clearly got plans to make a career out of these and it would seem more about American productions. They're probably talking about what they're going to do next, now that they've got a heavyweight distributor behind them. Red Rock Entertainment are one of the top independent companies in the UK. They seem impressed with the approach they've taken on this.
Try importing the Scream Factory releases of the Robo sequels, Chanood. Got around to watching their docs last year. They were good. Enough to go back to for repeated viewing. Some here thought that they were slapped together, but they were fine for what they were, even if the editing was slightly rough in parts. Think they were probably short on time and had to do a rush job on final changes.
Your typical DVD/BluRay extras, but not concerning themselves with clips from the films. Scenes and shots that we're already too familiar, they focused on the interviews and let them do the talking, lol. Sometimes, that's better. You want to HEAR from the people and what THEY have to say.

Why on earth would they want to do that...
The whole thing rests on the cult of "R1".
That's the classic. The rest are minor. We like them, but most don't.
The masses don't care and that's the way it is. The guys haven't got a major distributor onboard, just to start throwing out whole segments. They've signed agreements and contracts for global release.
That's what's happened here. That's how the business works. It's gone far beyond a Kickstarter venture. It got them where they wanted, but they also invested their own dollar. More than what was raised, I think; not just physically either. Time and effort, night-and-day...for however many years this has been running.
That's usually forgotten about by most "fans" of these things. Tends to show their own ignorance up. That little personality trait called "ego".
Only a minority are bothered about them not updating their fund page. They're on FB, Twitter and that's enough. Those are their platforms; where we can reach them. Their consumer base and most purists are across them. No one's going to KS to check for news. It's irrelevant at this stage.

Erm...they are.
They've already said that they will.
You and Chanood keep making cracks at not being alive when they do. Let's see you take a crack at it.
You must be still butthurt about them not covering your precious comics, Pimpy. You've criticised them at every turn and just been a bitch. You don't hide it well, boy. Not even 30? Makes sense.
No wonder you're a brat.

I understand, yes. But that´s something I saw on other properties as well. I lend a hand on a well known property, and when they put something from the "classic" one, people react happily. When they put something new, or something obscure, they almost have zero reactions. Which I find weird, as I thought fans would like to know more something about things that aren´t covered yet. I guess it has to do with comfort and familiarity.
As for R1, a lot of releases had great, in dept documentaries, that´s why I´m always interested to learn more about what came after. As we already talked in this forum, I´d like to see a segment about RebootCop with the makers talking (honestly) about the project. And I don´t like that film...

I´d like to, as well with some other titles from Scream Factory. I had the chance to watch a few from R2 and R3, which were posted online for a short time. Good stuff. But I´d have to get a multi-region player first to be able to watch them.

Peace, man! It´s been a while since the doc would be released, so I think it´s ok to have a laugh about the delays. To me, making a joke about delays it´s a way to fight the urge to watch these. I remember when "RoboCop Returns" was a "real" project; the director of this documentary post the news on social media, and I replied something like "Great, RoboDoc is delayed... again". Both had a good laugh, that´s all.

Well, why don't you go for it, then. Genuinely, I mean it. You've talked enough about having spoken to the comic book and "PD" guys for a magazine you did.
Let's see those interviews typed up and posted here...or conduct them again for this site. Setup a new topic where you add the transcripts as posts. I'd love to read those. Sure some here would, too.

Once is fine, like Chris. More is just juvenile and witless. It starts to sound petty and bitter, but granted, you've only done it a few times. Pimpy's been doing it the whole 4-5 years this has been going on. Pathetic is an understatement.

It´s not a bad idea. I even thought of making an edit of the Galyn Görg interview and make a video out of it, since I have the audio somewhere. As for the written interviews, I had them translated, so I´d have to find out the original texts in English so you people would understand a word about this.

Shit like this is why I keep coming back to the forum. That gave me a hearty chuckle, but the thing is you're not wrong. Keep that train a rollin'. Keep simping for the plebeian R1 neanderthals. ChAnOoD and I will continue looking down our greasy, crooked noses at you from the penthouse of OCP tower, doing massive mounds of cocaine with classy prostitutes while we clutch yellowed copies of Mortal Coils and watch Alpha Commando on VHS, defenders of the true faith!
This is always how it was meant to be.

Damn. They're getting some serious shit off some of the people who've been following this since the Kickstarter. That's a shame. They don't really deserve it. It's not easy making a documentary like this, but to be fair, they have been working on other projects. Had a feeling they'd get a bit of crap. I just want to hear about the sequels, series and comics. The previews that were around on the first film were good, but I'm looking forward more to them.
4 and a quarter hours is a monster length of time for one movie. Does every scene need to be covered? I thought they already had a distributor signed up. I'd love to have this by Christmas, but with the rest of the franchise included. Bugging that Frank Miller, Walon Green, Tim Hunter and the editors didn't want to participate or weren't approached to be interviewed. I can't imagine the guys didn't at least try with those people, but it suggests not all of the real story behind ROBOCOP 2 will be unearthed in that doc.

Me too. I´m more interested on the lesser known/beloved parts of the franchise, because they usually aren´t covered a lot. Even the people behind the distribution usually don´t give a shit about these parts of the property!
Spectrum Scarlet : | 4 and a quarter hours is a monster length of time for one movie. Does every scene need to be covered? |
Yes, that´s something that scares me. I mean, 4 hours sounds RoboHeaven, but you have to rely on fancy edits to make something that deep not boring. As we talked in this topic before, we already know a bunch of trivia about the first film, so we´ll have a bunch of the documentary with info we knew. I guess new footage would be a crucial part to keep us enjoying the same information again. But I´m curious how it´ll turn out.

Anyone remembers how they´ll ship the thing? Didn´t one of the updates hint that we´ll get RoboDoc 1 shipped and then the rest on a "near future"? And yup, having Miller to talk about R2 & 3 would be great. Sadly, I´m not sure he wants to talk about these...
