Rick : | Early 2023 they said. Since December... not a whisper... How much longer are we going to have to wait?! |
Do you think it´ll be available in 2023? At this point, I´m not sure. And I´m used to wait at this point.
I´m not sure if I understood the whole situation. They´re working on the streaming plus the physical release, and if you pledged for the Blu Ray, they´re going to send you the Robo1 Doc, then the rest of the trilogy. I´m not sure if that would be viable, since you´ll have to send stuff twice (or more, we don´t know the details). I´d wait to get everything done, and I think it´d be cute to send first the Blu Rays to the people that paid for it before they stream it, because we´d get spoilers everywhere.
As I said before, if they´re with the legal stuff and distribution we could wait even more. I pledged to an indie flick some years ago (almost at the same time of RoboDoc) and I still have to get my copy in Blu Ray. Funny thing, a bunch of distributors all over the World already released the movie, yet the people who put money have to wait for the one from the makers of the film. I´m not angry for that, but in both cases I think they didn´t plan what could happen. Things went big and didn´t expect that, delaying the whole thing over and over.

I have faith they'll put it out as soon as possible.
There's a whole slew of problems that can arise. I imagine the switch over to Amazon might've put a wrench in the works.

The main problem for me is the lack of updates. I understand things could be slow during the process, but being silent for months while other of their (more recent) projects got a bunch of updates would feel weird for some of the contributors of RoboDoc. A mere "we´re still working on the Blu Ray" and an approximate date would calm these. I´ve seen posts with hostile comments from backers, and other posts had comments shut down.
Last update was in December. It´s been a while.

I think really the backers would be the ones who have the right to be upset. They paid to have this produced and now their getting the "check's in the mail" treatment. When they have all these other projects in the works as well it doesn't look good. Hopefully they aren't using the Canon Films playbook and "robbing Peter to pay Paul" with their projects. That never works. Just look at ANOVOS costume company... _________________

As a backer himself what it kinda bothers me is they´re aiming for a streaming release first, which would be difficult to avoid spoilers or leaks while waiting for the Blu Rays. It happened with another project I already mentioned here: a friend just told me that film is in Prime, and I´m still waiting for my copy to come home. In that case I´m not worried since I doubt it´ll leak, it´s a small project, but I find ironic the people who contributed to it have to wait more for it. I said it before in this topic, I think they didn´t know how to react when things got bigger, and I think RoboDoc became bigger than they thought as well, so the last stages are taking forever (legal stuff, the incorporation of Weller to the doc, and distribution). Anyway, I think they should keep the people posted. I check my mails and the last one from them is from 2019 (I could have delete some of the recent ones, can´t remember, but we haven´t got any updates in this year).
The last update we had in social media involved the streaming of RoboDoc ("1", I think) with a release date on spring 2023.

Any day now lol. Really hope this doesn't slip till Christmas or 2024. Anyway to add to this topic, I met Peter Weller about 2 weeks ago, he signed my screener copy and I got a picture with him. I had him sign "I'd buy that for a dollar!" , he was like "Uhh that's not my line but I'll sign it" which I replied with "I know every line in the movie" which he smiled. Seemed happy there were so many people there, place was packed to where you could not even walk or see the booths, it was a mad house.

Yeah, that's what it sounds like, so...
RoboDoc 1, in 4 parts, being released on a streaming service but on bluray for supporters, hopefully sometime next year
RoboDoc 2 in 2/3 parts in about 12/18 months after that
RoboDoc 3 in 2 parts 12/18 months after that
Wow, this is going to over a decade since they announced this before it all is released. I have to admit, hearing that from them, I have moved into the "indifferent about the delays" camp to the "completely pissed off" camp.
The lack of updates or anything from the team is especially annoying, nothing on the Kickstarter page and anything they put out is over Facebook. Even a few simple updates would massively help perception of this amongst the backers, but the complete radio silence is seriously annoying people and something the guys really should address. _________________

I agree. They take their time to show updates on other of their projects, but they´re usually quiet about this one. They should have told us even with the more boring, bureaucratic status of the project to keep the backers (and the people who wants to download/buy it now) interested with some info. It´s funny they´re claiming they´re doing it for the fans when their lack of information make them look like the hundreds of companies releasing subpar editions of the lesser known productions of the franchise.
I think they kept people interested with the trailers and the Peter Weller announcement, but at this point I´m sure a bunch of guys just don´t care for it anymore. They should have release small clips, trailers, pics or anything to keep generating some buzz.

Agreed and they did the opposite and removed a lot of the small clips that existed. I had emailed them about a few weeks ago this is the response I got

They might be in the loop on the new productions from Amazon. Neumeier & Miner could be involved, which Amazon haven’t announced. One or the other is bound to come out next year, if not the following and I wouldn’t be surprised if they are timing the doc to coincide with those, making the most of global publicity.
The costs of licensing material from copyrighted titles is notoriously high. Screambox may be spending a big chunk of their capital or lending finance they will need to pay back. Why else would you release a season of only 8 episodes over 3 years. It’s a very odd schedule. Maybe they will need that time to claw back that money. They don’t strike me as a major streamer.
Even with the reputation it has, RoboCop is still a lucrative brand. It may be just as a cult cinema property, but it is still iconic. It has a built-in audience of 35 years worldwide and companies are still paying licenses to make figures and a game.
Weller’s attending cons every month and his numbers must be enough to secure regular bookings. Rogue City is bound to have reignited interest in the franchise, so it all contributes. With that considered, the doc crew and Screambox are clearly looking to capitalise on that and exploit it for the sake of the doc.
On the other hand, perhaps they have decided that they can’t cover the licensing costs and have told the crew to scale back. Not on the interviews, but content from the trilogy. They must have finished it by now with Weller’s chat and they did say they were at the point of paperwork.
Who knows. It’s all speculative. Sounds like Screambox are in charge. Don’t do this, don’t do that, don’t say a word, not our problem. Maybe they were the only offer on the table and stipulated conditions. The producer sounds a little stressed, but the director doesn’t.
