Cameron announced, that the sequel will be made:

http://www.aintitcool.com/node/43559

I have a feeling, that "Avatar II" will match "Avatar" the same way, as R#2 had matched R#1 in terms of story and characters... The story is not deep enough for a long run.

I think we can only look forward to a much better film than the first one simply because the hard part was actually creating and bringing this "universe" to life.

Now that it's already established, I'm pretty sure that if they do everything exactly the same and just have a different story/plot line, then it will most definitely be the better movie.

I mean really, what was everyone's main complaint about this movie (besides the blue cat people)? The story. Even the people who love the film cannot deny the fact that the plot line is unoriginal and has been done before. As good as the film was.

So I only have high hopes for the second one. For now anyways.

You see, the big advantage of "Avatar" is, that the viewers are relating themselves with the main hero, who is exploring a new world. In sequel this obviously will be gone. So what next? A new battle with a new villain, like in R#2?

Okay man, you're using way too many R2 comparisons.

As pointless that is to say on a RoboCop forum. Wink

Because R#1 and "Avatar" have two things in common: a very emotional ending, and story, that is not promising that sequel could have such.

We had already discussed about R#2 sequels...

A movie wouldn't depress me. The point that a movie does depress people is actually what depresses me. tongue

Not really anything new, or at least not to me, anyway. Still, bah. Neutral

Odd,I thought that the movie was severely lacking in the emotional pull area,It just never grabbed me like I guess it shoulda,But even my girlfriend felt the same way very cliche' moments don't add up to a very emotional content,Avavtar just lacked alot to me.Not that it was crap cuz it ain't but it was weak.

Well i guess i need to see this movie, it is now the 3rd highest grossing movie ever, if he beats Batman then James will own the 1 and 2 spots.

Pretty damn amazing if you ask me, i mean the guy only make like
1 movie every ten years and there all major success.

I'm really impressed with how much money it's made. I didn't really expect that it would top Titanic...and it's so very close to doing it.

Anyways, I still need to go see it for the second time, so I'll have some more money to contribute!

Guess what happens after the first one. They fuck it up. Ever heard of that happening in any other franchise. Quit while you are ahead. This movie has the same kind of good storytelling like the first transformers movie. Sure it made alot of money. But was it anywhere near comparable to the first one? No.
Avatar won't be any different. The good story is used up and they will probably run the franchise into the ground. By the third film they'll probably have some other actor playing the main character.
