He was great in black snake moan. Not his typecast character at all. The man has the ability. The guy has range. You can't blame him for getting paid to do the same types of roles in alot of movies. They want his attitude, the way he is. Doubt his part will be that big anyway. Is he replacing Casey Wong?

I can't help but agree with the main view points of Vegas and Josh here.
First, the hardest working actor in Hollywood? I don't know about that. I understand that he has a pretty diverse and storied career over the years. But I can list a decent amount of actors who have been in various roles per year over the years. And even roles that were really physically demanding.
As far as the whole been a fan longer/see it in theaters comment. It is what it is. I'm 22, I wasn't alive when Robo1 came out. As Josh pointed out though, I remember seeing it at the age of 4 and instantly falling in love with everything about it. It has been a part of my life for quite a while now. As a kid I watched the movies as well as the cartoons, I played the video games, had toys, and even have some very good memories of playing the pinball machine.
Yes, this is the internet. We understand the concept of online rumors and movie buzz. Yes, we get the whole opinion thing. You say that if something makes you mad you don't say anything. For me, that's agood portion of why I love internet forums like this. We're not all going to agree, but we generally all have a love, passion, and understanding for in this case Robocop. Someone like myself, I can often take things seriously or not at all. Either way whether I'm happy and excited or angry and pessimistic, I'm going to voice my opinion regardless.
So remeber, it goes both ways. You sound pretty defensive about your opinions on Sam Jackson, and that's cool. Nothing wrong with that. You pointed out the freedom of your opinion, and we all have ours. No one here is telling you what to think or like or dislike. We're simply throwing our thoughts and feelings around on a possible situation that centers around an actor being involved on a project that we feel strongly about.

Girls, put your purses away and stop bickering!
I have a feeling Sam L Jacksons character might be something like a mix between Casey Wong and that douche bag from Robo: PD who talks to the camera with lots of jokes and biting sarcasm about the state of the world and topical news items. I shudder at the thought. _________________

If I had to pick a favorite Sam role, it would be his criminal cameo in Coming To America. Shotgun or not, Eddie Murphy thrashed him with a mop lol

yes my logic was flawed. Im old enough and adult enough to admit a mistake. But older and or taller or not..lol Im still a bigger fan in my own eyes!
I question your parents letting you all watch ROBOCOP at 4 years old! While i was young when i first saw it, i think 4 is waayyyyy to young to be watching a rated R movie especially one with as much cursing and violence. But it is what it is. Im sure you are all well adjusted people....I know i would never in a million years let my 4 year old watch ROBO!

I dont care about what you or anyone else thinks about Sam Jackson...just not sure why you all think hes a bad choice or a bad actor. True snakes on a plane was terrible...lol but not because of him. Hell half the people in this Robocop movie i have never heard of. That might be a good thing it might not be. I just think having a seasoned and recognizable name like Sam jackson (and Gary oldman) is a great thing! And i also feel strongly about this project as well...i guess im trying to be a bit more realistic about my feelings on it right now. We have ZERO strong evidense about this movie other than actors names and a release date....thats it. Me personally im waiting for a trailer before i let my underwear get in a wad and start having an ulcer. Thats all i was saying. Feel free to hate or dislike who you want, i just think its better to have real evidence to support hatered or dislike towards a movie. Thats my opinion.

I my case this would up being heavily emotionally scarring. I had seen Robocop, Aliens and Hellraiser 3 all when I was 3 myself and the results were...not good. I used to have terrible nightmares frequently, pretty much every night until I was 9 or 10. I used to refuse to watch R rated movies in fear they would be 'scary'.
So the result of my parents (Dad specifically) letting me watch Robo and others at a young age was that it disturbed me, and made me afraid of the unknown. Around the time I was 13 I reversed the process by watching the Aliens, Hellraiser, and eventuall Robocop series'. Then I got into hardcore film, watching many films dubbed "The most violent fim ever made" and really being fascinated with morbid content.
I'm 20 now and my tastes have pretty much evened out. I don't really like horror, or 'scary' movies anymore, but not because I'm afraid. I have in fact desensitized myself to what I was so over-sensitized for the majority of my youth. While this is a suitable state of mind, it took a lot of hardship to achieve balance.
So yes, probably a good idea NOT showing your 4 year olds Robocop and friends, but if you do it's not so bad...you're children will turn out like me, and that's never a bad thing.

All true Pimp.
I do agree that children under 12 should never watch the R version. But even still, I let my son watch it for the first time at around 8. He'll be 10 in a couple days.
But in a way, I'm using it as a parenting tool as well. I, myself, had seen it at 7. I have become so desensitized by violEnce over the years, that the same things don't phase me.
Of course this topic is come up before over the years on the boards. So, I'll stuff the rest in a sack. And change pace here...
Everyone is entitled to their personal opinons about Samuel L muthafuggen Jackson, sure! But at least keep in civil...
There is no need for harshness...

I think it's been said, I would have preferred him to play Reed or something. I'm not happy with all of these new characters. I think they're straying too far from the source. It isn't like Batman where there are so many different comics with slightly different takes. We're looking at one film, and a damn near perfect one, so I just don't like the changes. Hopefully, I'll be pleasantly surprised. _________________

See, I'm the opposite.
If the new film deviates quite a bit then it stands on it's own rather than a remakeI think that's a good thing. I would prefer it if Padilha had his own vision then trying to emulate the original film because that way we can look at them both as separate interpretations. Let's face it, out of blind loyalty (or stubbornness ) very few of us fans are going to say the remake is better.
I would rather new characters because then you haven't got new actors trying to be characters that we know and love. I can't imagine anyone but Robert DoQui as Reed because he played the character well. I watched RoboCop just last night and I still smile when he makeshis first appearance. Man, I still get a jarring feeling seeing anyone but Weller in the suit as it is.
