There are way too many aspects of film versus digital to write it off as simply ego or budget.
From a direct production POV, digital allows you to view your shots the moment you say cut, and not have to wait 24 hours for the dailies to roll in. You can use extended shots and continuously film off-the-cuff moments without worry of running out of film and switching canisters. You can also create and preview rough cuts of your footage as often and as soon as you see fit. In post-pro, you no longer have to deal with an extensive scanning process to prepare your shots for VFX work or timing/correction. It also makes it easier to use non-linear editing suites and simplifies the entire DI process.
In the end, the only advantage of film is strictly a case of aesthetics, and even that's a matter of personal taste and preference. Don't get me wrong, I love the look of proper film and think it's all too easy to make digital look cheap and ghastly, but I'm not going to let nostalgia or a sense of comfort with the past blind me to what digital brings to the table. _________________
