On the heels of last week's announcement that Hugh Laurie had dropped out of Jose Padilha's RoboCop reboot comes word, via Deadline, that Michael Keaton has stepped in to play the role of Raymond Sellars, the evil and ultra-rich CEO of Omnicorp.
Keatons will be joining a cast that includes Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman, Samuel L. Jackson, Jackie Earle Haley, Jay Baruchel, Jennifer Ehle, Michael Kenneth Williams and Marianne Jean-Baptiste.
In RoboCop, the year is 2029 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the center of robot technology. Their drones are winning American wars around the globe and now they want to bring this technology to the home front. Alex Murphy is a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit. After he is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp utilizes their remarkable science of robotics to save Alex’s life. He returns to the streets of his beloved city with amazing new abilities, but with issues a regular man has never had to face before.
RoboCop is planned to hit theaters on August 9, 2013.

BREAKING: Michael Keaton has been set to play the role of Raymond Sellars in the MGM/Columbia Pictures’ RoboCop remake. Sellars is the CEO of the corporation that builds RoboCop, a role that Hugh Laurie was expected to play until he dropped out before consummating a deal. The film, a re-imagining of the 1987 Paul Verhoeven cult classic, is scheduled to begin shooting next month. RoboCop will be released on August 9, 2013.
Keaton joins previously announced Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman, Samuel L. Jackson and Abbie Cornish in the Jose Padilha-directed film.
“Michael is the final addition to the amazing cast we have assembled for this film and it is so great to have the last puzzle piece in place. It is thrilling that everything has come together to bring this innovative new vision of RoboCop to life. We’ve got a great script, a great cast, some killer ED-209’s and I can’t wait to get Alex Murphy back on the streets,” said Padilha.
It’s good to see Keaton back in a mainstream film.

Not a bad choice.
I'm glad that they have chosen someone who I never thought I would see in the role. It also looks like some real progress may start to be made.
Also, I like Padilha's enthusiasm considering how down in the dumps he was rumored to be. I guess he still has to blow smoke up the studios ass no matter what dodgy choices they make.

You keep saying this. Like putting a bad omen on this movie.
Please don't ruin the forthcoming year by adding this to all your posts.
Yeah, I know I'm on a media blackout, But this caught my attention. Come shooting time, I will ignore stuff...
Nice to have Keaton on board. Might male this movie more watchable. I wasn't too thrilled with the idea of Laurie in the flick anyways.

Keaton is a badass when it comes too twisted and evil characters,Ever see Pacific Heights?..That dude can play anything so really thats great news,..Sean I'll save your next year for ya by not saying tht anymore but you'll come too find out that I'am a man of my word,See I'm actually really hopeful that this film kicks ass and brings Murphy back in righteous Robo ass kickin form..Am I a Mega skeptic when it comes too it?,Why yes I am....I'm entitled too that..At the very least we have Robo stuff too talk about and if everyone had the same opinion regarding the film,well....We'd all be behaveing like Robots,,Now would'nt we..

I love Keaton as an actor and I can really imagine him in the role! Also it's good to see him attached to a bigger picture again.
And it's good to see the movie going forward... I get the feeling that even if I like the movie, my first reaction would be "Why did this have to be called "RoboCop"..."
