Men, truthfully and unafraid, your speech was shit. |
totally unnecessary. its fucking tiring. At this stage of the game no one is wrong, the movie isnt out yet, you have just as little information to like as much as other have to hate it. if you guys dont like what others have to say, address their reasoning, or ignore instead of attacking people directly.
Its either one big circle jerk with the people you agree with, and everyone else has no right to express themselves? come on grow the fuck up. |
Do what i do, don't pay attention to what the 5 defenders of the new movie say, regardless of what it is. They have attacked pretty much everyone who doesn't agree that this movie will be AWESOME.
To me this entire "love" for a movie even before we had the first real shots from the set rings a bell.......
As for the Elite Movies they looked way too cheap to me from the cast to pretty much everything else and i don't really like watching cheap things on the big screen, kinda destroys the entire concept. But on the other hand you guys are right, he could do what he wanted with those budget movies, now the upper echelons have the last say.

I'd just like to say I don't know if I might be considered one of the "5 defenders" CrimeDoesNotPay is referring to, but I want to make it clear I don't wish anyone here any ill will at all. I've been coming on here a pretty good while, though not quite enough to make any lasting relationships. Like I said before, I started out pretty hot and heavy back during the 20th anniversary of the original RoboCop, then I kinda lurked here and there for a long time. I'd come around every now and then to see if there were any developments with new figures and what not, and whether or not a new film would be made.
And Crime, I promise...when I asked you to click on those links, it was a silly joke. When you click the links I referred to, you get a banner at the top of the page with an image of the new RoboCop. I was trying to be funny in light of what you said about "until the banner changes" and all that. I wasn't trying to provoke you, I promise. I wanted to see what you said. I was just trying to lighten the mood and be funny amidst all of the infighting and heated exchanges. I guess when you have to explain a joke, it isn't very funny, is it...especially on the internet. (lol)
I just wanted to say I'm sorry if I came across to anyone as annoying or a blind follower of the new film's direction and all that. I guess I'm excited about it, and I rush to defend my comments and/or opinions too quickly sometimes, especially when I think I've been misunderstood. And I also want to add I loved what Mindchamber had to say about this whole thing, and I'll paraphrase him, if he doesn't mind, albeit with less cursing (lol): The people that love the new movie have as little to like as much as others have to hate it, and the discussions should never degenerate into personal attacks. That's been the most reasonable statement made during this whole discussion. I tried to say something similar, but I don't think I got my point across as well or as clearly.
So if I've been part of the problem, or if I've come across as a smart-alleck at times, I would like to formally apologize to anyone I may have aggravated or insulted. That's just not my nature, if anyone had met me face-to-face or knows me. I promise I didn't mean to be a jerk. I just want to remain positive and be an equally-positive and open-minded contributor to these boards. I love the subject matter way too much to make enemies around here and cause hard feelings. I like to think I love all-things RoboCop as much as anybody else here.

The problem with this is not that people have opinions on the original or the reboot and which is better, but that people take offense to other peoples opinions and then the mud slinging begins.
If you prefer the reboot there is no problem with that. It's an opinion and if everybody thought the same we'd have a very boring thread going on. Although I do wish some people would discuss rather than argue.
As a massive fan of RoboCop the new design was very hard for me to stomach. I still think that the new design is too derivative and lacks creative originality and there are choices that I think are a bit "out there", but I still respect what people have to say and do enjoy reading what they write. But overall I have accepted it. It's not the design I would settle for but it's the one that we have.
We have a nice little community here (although I would imagine some people feel alienated which I will say is not the case) and it would be a shame for it to go tits up because of a difference in opinion.

Because I'm mature enough to.
I still don't really like it as some do, but by accepting it I can at least rationally talk about it and not reduce myself into bitching about what others have to say.
The script is still shit though.

I concour Josh I've taken to focusing on some of the nicer bits of the suit and not troubleing myself any further with how far seperated from the original it is,I had to be honest with myself and come clean,I would'nt have liked anything other than the Bottin design. And to be clear I still don't like this new one.But at the very least there are some nice bits to it..

Guess what sir ? The script has leaked, but you seem to deliberately miss it. But more important, the script is not an early draft, it's Joshua Zetumer's finished script plus Nick Schenck's revision. In other words, this is very likely what we're going to see on screen with some minor changes. Also, on top of this we've been supplied with tons of pics from the set to give us a decent 'grounding' about the direction the movie is taking when it comes to design, photography and production in general. This is far from being a "blind love" with something no one has a clue about. Quite the opposite actually.

You're calling cheap the highest-grossing film of all time in Brazil, beating Avatar's record. (Elite Squad 2) and a 30 plus award winning movie including a Golden Bear. (Elite Squad). I'm shure this impressive accomplishment related to Elite Squad alone was the reason why MGM approached Jose to helm the movie but you again fail to realize all of these. Ultimately, that's why i don't give much credit about whatever you say but if you try to be more reasonable i'll respect you more that's for shure.

If you are talking about the script we had on the board a while back, dated January, Sony pictures entertainment stated in September that it is a script they:
"classify as proprietary and outdated."
That said, from what we have seen from various photos it does look like a lot of it remains the same or very similar.

1) So the reason some of you started defending the movie before we even had pictures and the complete script was..... ? And now you keep defending it when the suit is almost a direct copy of Iron Man meets the black/rubber Batman suit coating ? Sorry but i don't see it. Like i said if this was the new Super Force or a brand new movie i'd say it looks fine, really. But Robocop ? This is even worse than the Sarah Connor Chronicles where they thought it would be ok to use a small girl as a Terminator....Didn't last....
2) Brazil ? Seriously ? The land of cheap plastic surgeries is now a "serious" name in entertainment ? Don't think so....
The reason MGM approached padhila in the first place is because they wanted new blood and someone who didn't really care about keeping a "good/clean" image as long as he can make an aggresive action movie. However that's not really happening now since i'm quite certain they regreted ever taking that decision (according always to what padhila says, unless he's lying his teeth out).
So please don't give me that "awesome" Elite Squad 1/2 cr@p just because in "brazil" people watched it more than the Expendables (example - if it's real). I'm sure that in Equador they don't even watch USA published movies same as with many other places, so what ? It's politics, nothing more nothing less.
And even if all of the above weren't a fact still everyone has their own "taste" in movies and personally i hate watching low-budget films with D-rated part-time actors.

Guys, I'm just throwing a preemptive warning out there but try to keep the talk nice and friendly before it descends into personal attacks.

It's bizarre to see so much vitriol directed, not at what's been presented to us so far, but at each for our reactions to it. I disappeared for a while specifically because I knew that I couldn't help but have knee-jerk reactions to the new film, but I think I've calmed down enough to be civil about our differences.
Not calling out anyone in particular, but does anyone else think they can set aside their personal stake in this film succeeding or failing, and just discuss it unto itself? Because I'd love to discuss everything with some real RoboFans instead of boring all of my IRL friends. _________________
