Hey guys hope this is the right place to post this. What is the definitve home release of Robocop 1? in terms of extras and video quality. I've seen some places say that the blu ray is too clean and the criterion DVD is better.
And what are the differences between the Robocop blu ray single pack and the trilogy in terms of extras and the such?
Thanks

I remember when I first watched RoboCop on VHS, one good extra it had was a promo for the computer/arcade game. Nice.

its a toss up really. criterion's version had the most scenes restored, but im sure there are others out there with a cleaner picture since criterion was only on regular dvd.

I'm a fan of the 20th anniversary 2 disc DVD edition that came out a few years ago. It has both the theatrical and extended cuts, plus a bunch of bonus features with interveiws from the cast and crew that aren't on any other release.

Got good old Robo on a VHS pack of the trilogy, then the DVD trilogy edition and the 20th Anniversary. To me the 20th Anniversary, as Yarbles said, is the one I´d choose. It´s good to see the previous extras sharing place with the new ones, and it has some funny stories from the cast. Also it comes with the theatrical and "extended" cut, so it´s a pretty nice edition.
I´m not sure about the Criterion features. Anyone could tell us the extras it had? If I´m not mistaken is the one with the ED storyboards among others, isn´t it?

Aesthetically, any that uses the original clean full cover-poster of robo stepping out of the taurus, if Sony/Mgm can hear me, please no more photoshop montages!

Criterion collection has the best in-depth info and background behind the scenes, I do believe it has all the ED storyboards, along with all kinds of other info and pics and some good videos. Also has independent-recorded commentaries that are more focused on certain aspects of the film.
20th Anniversary edition isn't quite as in-depth on some info but has most of the b-t-s videos as well as some great newer featurettes that aren't on any other release. Also has good quality in terms of transfer. More regular commentary on the film but still quite good. And as said, both theatrical and unrated versions of the film on there.
Both are alright choices, Criterion is generally considered the pinnacle of RoboCop releases but as said the 20th is very good as well. Both are worth getting, though for a first time go I'd hit the 20th Anniversary.
In terms of the Blu-Ray releases I don't know if there are any real features/extras to the regular R1 release. The DVD Trilogy has the same commentary as the 20th DVD but doesn't have it's featurette videos, not sure if it's the same for the Blu-Ray of it though. _________________ I don't wanna pay that, PhotoBucket. Now maybe you haven't heard, but I'm the guy in old Archive. So hows about you just shit snow for a year and I'll figure out something else. Sayonara!

I've got the Robocop Trilogy on Blu-ray. As far as extras go, it's got squat. A couple of trailers on each disk, if that, and that's about it. They all look amazing in high-def though, although the first disk is the director's cut from the anniversary edition, and I really don't care for it. The previously-unseen footage looks grainy and out-of-place intercut between the original scenes. It's actually kinda ugly, jarring, and all unnecessary, in my opinion...
I guess my favorite release has been the 20th Anniversary DVD. I love the steel-book case, the inclusion of the theatrical (superior IMO) version, as well as a lot of cool extras and behind-the-scenes stuff. I'll have to check out the Criterion edition.

I'd love to invest in the BluRay's of the first 2 movies (and probably the 3rd as I'm a completest at heart) but only RoboCop 1 is available on BluRay in Ireland. I imagine in time all 3 will get new BluRay releases and, hopefully, some special features instead of just trailers. The 25th anniversary of RoboCop 2 is in 2 years time so maybe we will see something for it then? Although, I'm pretty sure I said something similar in 2008 or 2009 about the 20th anniversary being in 2010 and we got diddly squat!
From what I understand about the BluRays of RoboCop 1, all of them have picture issues and probably aren't worth upgrading to just yet. I'm sure they'll release another one so I'm gonna be patient and wait for it, and the sequels, instead. _________________

I really don't see anything wrong with the blue ray copy I have it as well as on regular dvd and I enjoy them both...one thing I did notice with the blue ray was the background noise you never noticed before like the coffee stop scene where he's practicing twirling his gun I was able to hear the sound of a pile driver in the background

I have the bluray versions, I prefer them, though not as perfect quality as modern movies that are on bluray. It's good for screen grabs . That's the reason I got them
Cheers

If you want the full Robocop experience but are in a hurry, try watching the tape from the Robocop VHS game.
