Bob Obba :
Considering his planned Alien film fell through, along with the uncertainty about Peter Weller, I'm getting an anxious feeling.

Uh-oh. I don't use Instagram or Twitter myself so haven't been following this. Any word on the precedent with his Alien movie? Was he tweeting about that a lot before it got cancelled? I was hoping that him talking about it so openly meant it was fairly set in stone. Maybe he had to remove the tweets because of a contract thing where he can't reveal too much info about it or something? In addition to the alien thing, it is starting to remind me of what happened with Aronofsky's Robocop...

Or perhaps the studio told him to take them down? It doesn't have to be a bad reason.

It's odd. The pictures wern't anything special or had any kind of info towards the new movie whatsoever.

The latest Robo image he put up (and now removed) was of him and the ED-209 statue he has at his office.

Doesn't the latest interview with Ed Neumeir negate these concerns?

The next article is dated January. 24.19 and there we have some words from Neumeier giving a little more detail on what Blomkamp is trying to achieve, interesting stuff:

I think the possibility of Weller returning to voice Robo is pretty good seeing as he does a lot of that as it is. If Peter Cullen is still voicing Optimus Prime then no one can really bark about their age Laughing I do agree Weller not making a solid denial about the role is very curious based on his past actions. I think the only way we will see him back is with the voice over option. Given the way the reboot backfired and the way the 80's nostalgia train is riding high right now, I am willing to bet the studio is very willing to get Weller on board.

Weller can still do the moves.. and his mouth can easily be CGd.. besides it would be off putting if this is supposed to occur after the first movie

This, to me, is bad news. Why can't they just let the people who created these massive phenomenons have a crack at the sequels? Studios always think they know how to best profit off their characters, even though it was someone else who thought up the character that made them so much money. And this writer they got has done nothing noteworthy. The new Terminator movie? Hasn't even come out yet, and it will probably flop just like the last one. Not feeling it. Not feeling the idea of setting it right after the first film too. For years now I've been saying Robocop needs to go further, not backward. Stop erasing all the sequels and returning to the same point for every sequel. Ignoring the sequels and spinoffs is better than deliberately contradicting them. Really seems like the studio didn't have much faith in this script at all. Plus, how awesome does Miner's description of the original idea for the villain sound? This is who I wanna see Robocop fight onscreen:

Michael Miner :
"Our villain was a Centaur-like freaky monster with a football helmet with spiraling horns coming out of it and we called him the mule."

"it seems as MGM has yet to officially greenlight the film"

That concerns me a lot.

Do you not think this sounds a little goofy? It doesn't sound like something that would've been in the original - and Blomkamp seems to want to make this feel exactly like the original. A football helmet with horns? Sounds almost comical to me. Very Happy

Maybe this is why Blomkamp has gone in another direction?

I can understand them de-ageing Weller in the likely small screentime that will feature Robo with no helmet on - but if they bring back Nancy Allen this will require more screentime. I've only been aware of an actor/actress being de-aged for small periods of a film. Can it be done? Would it not be incredibly expensive? I'd like to see Roosevelt return - he had quite a prominent role early on and then was forgotten about (including in the sequels) and would bring continuity. Same goes for Starkweather, McNamara and other characters. Again, do you de-age all those actors or do you recast those smaller roles?
