As we are getting close to the one year anniversary of RoboCop Returns being announced at July 11 (and then not getting much new info at all) we finally get a short update from director Neill Blomkamp via his twitter.
While not much, it is nice to know the script is still being worked on and the original suit is definitely also returning.

....and they are definitely adding some kind of twist to the original suit. It's the old one to start with but it has some new "cool" feature. It can morph or transform or something. No way they can just put the original suit in there and leave it at that.

He can transform into a car, so he can be both RoboCop and the Ford Taurus. Genius!
I still donīt believe anything Blomkamp would say. We already have cute words in the past, and we also had the "hot director" on board to run from the project in the last second. Also, Iīm not aware of what heīs doing, but it seems his production company had to work with streaming platforms on some projects but he didnīt deliver them. Again, it looks like his "Alien" concept: the original star is back, trying to re-con the original film and whatever, but it ended as a fan-fiction more than a real project.

Also the way they hyped the "true sequel" and adapting "Corporate Wars" and the original writers being involved and then seemingly just dropping the concept altogether is a bit heartbreaking.
The whole point was to have RoboCop return 25-30 years later both in the movie and real time. If the new movie takes place directly after the original movie Robo is not really "returning" is he?

Donīt know. As far as I understood it, they pick Corporate Wars and scrapped the idea after some rewrites, which is a stupid move when you take Neumeier and Miner on the mix. I can feel for Neumeier. Itīs good to have a check from time to time, but being close to make his script and then they kick him in the butt to do their own thing.
If theyīll end doing it at all, of course. Maybe in some months heīll announce "District 10" and this project is dead.

So they're telling us that it will be in the spirit of Verheoven, with the original suit design and maybe Peter , most likely his voice, if they can afford it.It could work ... _________________ http://robocop2directive5.blogspot.fr/

While this news was probably meant to reassure us, it has done the opposite. First we heard about it, the script had been done for decades! Then it had an edit done... and now it's being written? No mention of Miner and Neumeier being involved either. At this point we might as well forget any plot or setting details that we were given so far. Nothing has been officially announced, including the movie itself.

As Neumeier said in recent interviews, the original script was rushed, wasn't good, but had good ideas and was only a first draft. It was always going to be re-written but ditching its ideas of featuring an older RoboCop waking up in the future was a mistake.

If Neumeir and Miner were the ones revising their old drafts it wouldn't be a problem. But then they said some other dude, whose only notable project seems to be the upcoming Terminator film, was rewriting it... and I was OK with that too. But notice that tweet didn't say it is being revised, it said the script is being "written"... with no mention of Neumeier or Miner's involvement... to me that suggest they are scrapped that idea and somebody else is writing a new script from scratch... which would be a disappointment... and I am not one of the people who have been saying "they should just film the corporate wars script" because I would rather see a new idea than a decades old one... but having the original writers onboard to finally return to Robocop properly would be awesome. Unfortunately, it does not appear that is the case.

Based on the leaked plot for Terminator Dark Fate, this is not a good sign. We may very well get Robocop Returns: As a transgender cyborg fighting for social justice against the evil white patriarchy.

This said it will depend of what the producers want, and TDF has like 6 writers, Cameron included and you can't trust this guy whatever gems he co-wrote 35 years ago.
I need more concrete infos to drop this project.
