Someone on facebook mentioned that Murphy shoots the target in the same way he was killed. I can't believe I never noticed this before. Thoughts? _________________

That would have been quite amazing and subtle, but to be honest, I don't think it's the case: the second shot is already a headshot, then he blows both arms, not just one, and finally, he shoots the target twice in the neck. It doesn't follow the same order and aims for body areas that he wasn't shot at.

Anyway, it's interesting that he blows the arms, yet I think it's also playing on how excessive firepower he has, instead of disarming someone the auto-9 could blow off their arm. And yet, compared to ED-209 he has light firepower, which makes it even more hilarious and absurd.

I saw that post on facebook too and the screenshot did make it seem convincing. But when watching the full scene it seems to be more of a coincidence than anything. artuditu did a good job of explaining why so I won't repeat the same details. The idea is solid and if it had ended with the target having just one arm I'd believe it, as for now it is just one of those things that could be intentional but probably not.

I do think there is something to that, though I think the shots to the neck and severing the body, are a reference to the fact that all that seems left of him is his face/head after OCP has finished having their wicked ways with him. _________________ http://img819.imageshack.us/img819/1060/klfjustifiedancient.png

I never thought about the scene being a repetition of Murphy's murder before! Even though there are differences in the scene, I like how it is a stylized way of showing an early intrusion of what could be Murphy's subconscious. Whether it was intended to be done that way or not, I am still giving the movie credit for making yet another interesting parallel to the human/machine identity element of the story.
