The old man's character was inconsistent from R1 to R2 but I enjoyed his performance in R2 more. He usually came out on top and he was very smug about that. He made you feel the mayors frustration in that scene when he was called scenile. I know I wanted to take that grin off his face. That's what made him such an enjoyable character for me.

Sure, I think about lots of other things...hos, money, the color pink, remixes, drug wars, turf, the po-po getting up in my grill. You know, the usual. _________________

| Sexton hardcastle : | | I thought the old man was kinda cool in Robocop. I didnt like the way they completley changed his personality in Robocp 2 - but then I didnt like alot of things in Robocp 2! |
I agree with this. At the end of part one both he and Murphy seemed like they would go onto have good relations, but neither Murphy's humanity or the old Man humility were carried over to Robocop 2.

Yes, I am aware, though he wasn't completely a good guy either in the first movie. OCP was supposed to be some kinda Corporate Fascist organization bent on domination and creating their Delta city, some kinda futuristic Utopia/Dystopia, probably along the lines of Mega City from Judge Dredd fame(as Robo was inspired upon), with Droids and paramilitary Police force running the show. Dick Jones was just completely corrupt and trying to boost his product, ED-209 using Clarence, he just snapped when Bob Morton became successful and directly insulted Jones in the bathroom, so we never really get to know or see the mechanisms of OCP, just know that its survival of the fittest and uses a nazi inspired Flag . However Robocop 1 just depicted the Old Man as regular corporate president and a "sweet old man", as Jones said to Bob Morton.
I always thought and felt OCP was rather Anti-heroish in the first film, though initial story may of always been Robocop vs his evil creators, not sure were the original writers were taking the storyline in further sequels.

I would add, that writers had put (in my mind) Old Man as "benevolent" (as it says in scenario) man, because they wanted to show, that not everything was bad in OCP, but even if the good side of OCP was bad by objective standard, it could just mean, how OCP was really, really evil.
Am I clear?

Well "benevolent" is a stretch I'd say, he was more worried about sales and costs(ie the company and money) than Kinney's gruesome death. He was a cold hearted and distant shadowy character, just perhaps not a corrupt criminal as the likes of Jones. The Sequel was a overall badly handled disjointed film to ever truly know the Old Man.

| Robocop_Unit_1983 : | | Nika Silwerra : | yeah EC .. while in R1 he seems as good and fair man in the R2 was his totally different ..hmm suddenly from so almost innocent old man to bad guy ?! Or it was just the spirit of Dick Jones ?! I would rather see in the R2 the Dick Jones for the bad guy ( ahh and if I am right this actor died )
The an "old man " in R3 was not too good actor for the role .. he was a funny and nervous and I really the feeling that this actor played many comedies .. but what we can want .whole R3 was as one big comedy or parody for first two films |
Indeed my dearest Nika,
His name was Daniel O'herlihy |
i'd buy that for a dollar!!!
the old man plays the good to dick jones evil , likewise johnson is thegood exec in r2.... quite frankly sir i'm shocked !!!! she's screening murderers!!! psychotics!!!!!
I've met women like fax (that sleep with the boss) and they will ALWAYS use their sexuallity to advance , and there is nothing you can do about it , so i really relate to johnson in r2 ......
in r 3 ...johnson is a greedy corporate asshole, and the ceo plays the comedic counterbalance to mc daggits evil .

My opinion is just like yours, He is a nice old man in RC1, but is a senil old bastard in RC2
I didnīt like him in RC2, for me there only exists "one old man", and thats the RC1 old man kind
For me I think he is better has a nice old man, than a bad guy, substitute for Dick Jones

In R2 when cain was shooting everything and people were dying and screaming, robo was shooting him with the cobra cannon and all hell was breaking loose all that 'the old man' did was shout rather loudly ' BEHAAAVE YOURSELVES!!!!!'
Could that be any more out of place than it already is.
(seriously, who would even think that shouting 'BEHAAAVE YOURSELVES' would stop two angry cyborg killing machines.)
